Adam & Shoghi | an intimate Prince Edward County wedding at an airbnb home estate
Adam & Shoghi.
Where does one start when it comes to a wedding that made you so happy to the deepest depths of your heart that you just kept crying out of happiness for no other reason than feeling so. incredibly. much!?! Truly, the happiness that I felt for my friends that day was immeasurable.
I was first connected to this beautiful couple through some chance meetings with Adam a long time ago. We met one day when we were both at The Drake and he slid his seat over next to mine to say hello. From there, we kept running into each other—he used to do spin classes close to where I lived and we both frequented The Drake. He then took a photography workshop I was teaching and we became closer and started going out for coffee. Now he’s one of my dearest friends (and sometimes a second shooter for me too!) and has connected me to someone else I hold so close to my heart—his husband Shoghi. These two were even a part of my pandemic bubble and I just cherish them so much.
It was such a huge honour to be asked to do their wedding. Normally, being asked to do either a friend’s wedding OR another photographer’s wedding is an honour in itself—and Adam is both! I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous, ‘cause let me tell you…I was SO nervous. Not because I thought I couldn’t do it or I would miss anything, but because I wanted to ensure that I documented the storytelling and the narrative of the wedding, capturing and covering every single special moment. I wanted to give it every possible ounce of creativity, timestamping the day in an unaltered way where every frame would take them back to that particular moment and remind them of all the beautiful moments that came after that. Wedding photos aren’t just for Instagram—they’re for the storytelling, the connection, the heart, the intimacy.
Adam and Shoghi were married in an intimate ceremony with the most beautiful vows, at a huge Airbnb in Prince Edward County. They were surrounded with a group of select people who were so important to them, and they all laughed and loved the whole day. I wanted to capture and share all those moments, plus the special little in-between ones, like Shoghi sweeping the deck before the ceremony and Adam making their coffees.
Adam and I shared a sweet little moment upstairs before the day really got started, talking about what was coming up and what it meant. Then he went down to join his friends, and you could truly feel the joy and giddiness building in everyone. The prep was one of my favorite parts because not only do I love groom prep but I love when a couple gets ready together. So the fact that Adam and Shoghi were two for two on those just had me totally giddy to capture this. When men get dressed I find it has a rhythm to it…maybe that’s because there are more pieces to put on that are all so familiar to every day, so it feels natural but also kind of like a dance. I love it so much.
After the ceremony, when the boys were signing the marriage certificate, I was sobbing and Adam started filming me with his phone (which resulted in a hilarious video). I actually kept crying all day because I was so happy for them, but during this moment I was crying particularly big, happy tears. Happy tears are a huge thing in my life, but only come out for very special people…and Adam and Shoghi are two of those very special people. They just make me believe in love and feel such a pure form of happiness.
Documenting this wedding for me was about the story, the experience and the feelings. It was about the happiness and the heart that these two gents and their close-knit group of friends shared as they spent the day making their love official. I couldn’t be happier for these two or feel more honoured to have been the one to capture this day full of love for them.
