Carly, Seth, Penny, Harry & Max | an at home family session in the springtime
Time and time again, there are two things that touch my heart in a way that completely rocks me to my soul (in the best way possible).
Those two things are support and trust.
And this sweet family has so much of both.
I’ve been documenting Carly and Seth and their babes for quite some time now, and each time melts my heart a little more.
My first time with them was just the two of them and Penny, their daughter. Then they had Harry and did a second shoot as a family of four. I connected so much with Carly at that shoot—we talked for ages about motherhood, discussing the differences between each babe and what her experiences were like going from the first to the second.
Carly shared a lot with me about the ups and downs of being a mom of one and then a mom of two, what it was like to shift between children and have such vastly different experiences with each one. I’m so honoured she chose me to share her story with, and I’ll actually be writing about it over on my motherhood blog soon. It’s such a beautiful and important message—keep your eyes open for that one.
I also did a Covid-era photoshoot with her and just the kids while she was pregnant with Max, and then did this shoot with the whole family once Max arrived. We did this one at their new home and it was just so beautiful to spend a morning with them, hanging out. Carly and Seth are such radiant parents who are so connected and still so deeply in love, even with three kids climbing all over them all the time.
On that note…people like to make jokes about how being a parent is a lot, and it is a lot. But to see three beautiful children who are so loved by their parents, and whose parents are so in love with each other, is such a warming feeling. It’s been an honour to be able to watch the children grow through the years and witness Carly and Seth’s relationship with each other become more and more bonded too. I love being able to do sessions like this, documenting a couple’s love throughout their life and all its changes.
The candidness and playfulness this sweet family always has is so beautiful. Seth is such an incredible dad. He’s so invested in his kids’ lives and is so hands on and present and supportive. Carly and I just love it—you will too, once you see it in the photos! And Carly is such a warm, welcoming, loving woman. At the end of the session, we had a tender, beautiful little moment for just her and Max because he was so new and she didn’t have any photos alone with him.
I want to thank Carly and Seth for always trusting me to document their sweet little family time and time again. I feel incredibly lucky to have the clients I do—I think I learn a little bit from each of them every time, and in a way, they all make me the person I am.
All my love,
XO
Scarlet
