Sydney & Jelane | an intimate love session at Back to the Cabin in Varney

The name of the game for 2021 was exploring new spaces and places.

There are so many amazing Airbnb’s that have popped up in the past year. Each one seemed to have its own unique and amazing charm. It definitely makes you start to dream up your very own little place in the middle of nowhere.

For me, something like this place (we’ll get to this actual place in a minute…first, I’m going to take you along with me as I dream up my own magical spot) would be pretty perfect. I have a soft spot for A-Frame cabins.

When I was 32 weeks pregnant, I joined my husband in BC where he was playing The Juno’s and then we took a road trip across the border to meet up with one of my most favourite photographers ever to capture us before we became parents. We stayed in an A-Frame in the middle of the woods. It ended up being a dark, rainy little day when we shot, but that didn’t diminish the magic as Laurken photographed us in one of my most favourite shoot ever (with me in the photos and not behind the camera).

But as the 2020-2021 at-home experience really set in, my own views on life and what the future holds really started to play out a little differently in my mind. Dreaming up a place that is quiet and secluded—yet not too far from a little town with a cute coffee shop and nice smiling people—was a constant little daydream of mine. Something with lots of natural light, a giant cozy couch, and an epic kitchen for all the baking and dinner hosting.

A big fireplace would be a must and a wrap-around deck or a porch swing that I’d cuddle up on at night as I watch the sunsets with soft music coming through the window from where we just had dinner. That’s as far as I have gotten in this little made-up place in my mind but I’m sure the winter season that’s about to present itself with lots of downtime will bring on some new additions to this little dream of mine.

But back to this place, with this couple.

The place: Back to the Cabin. A little A-Frame with the coziest vibes ever. It’s not too far from Toronto and it’s nestled in the middle of trees and feels like you are away from everyone, but in the best way. At the top of the A-frame is the main bedroom and it just feels like a place you’d cozy up in for endless hours. The decor is perfection. Everything you need is there. There is a gorgeous outdoor space with a fire pit and a cozy, inviting area to relax, as well.

The couple: Sydney & Jelane. One of the dreamiest and sweetest couples, ever. Truly.

You might recognize these beauties as I met them a few years back when they moved into their first home together, way up high in the clouds (literally—on every foggy day, I think of them and hop over to their IG to see the photos where they often will post how clouds surround their windows making it feel like they are living in a big cloud).

I fell in love with them after our time together and have lured them into more than a few shoots since then, as working with them is the best feeling in the world. The way they love each other is the kind of love one could only hope for. It defines real life love to me. They have fun, they are tender, they are mega sexy, and they are such a fun time. They are the full package.

How this session came about? How was I so lucky to work with them, yet again!?

Well…once all those lockdowns were lifted, I started to get on booking different spots all over in the hopes of taking little mini vacations myself or possibly doing shoots at these beautiful spots. Win-win in my opinion. With this adventure to Back to the Cabin, I invited these two, dreaming up a sexy little at-home session with them just being them in this cozy spot.

So, as the weather gets colder and being outside doesn’t sound as appealing, think about indoors and how beautifully intimate a session with your love can be. You don’t need much other than yourselves. With Syd & Jelane, the only addition was two cups of coffee, but—besides that—it was all them just being them, doing what they do on the daily. Because, really, that’s all you need to have for a love session: just you and your love. That’s what the shoot is about.

And if you aren’t in love with your home base, think about adventuring to one of the many Airbnbs and let’s get up to some exploring and document your love in new spaces. Then maybe, one day you can go back there, making it a little extra special with the memories you’ve made and will continue to make. Travelling is fun, and you don’t have to hop on a plane to do it. Sometimes, just an hour from home or a half-day car ride can bring on the biggest adventures one could ever imagine!

Can’t wait to travel with you one day. Get in touch with me if you want to dream up a shoot like this in the near future.
